Our Club

The Tully Netball Association is a dynamic sporting club that has proudly serviced Tully, and the Southern Cassowary Coast communities since 1980. Play commenced in Tully when grass courts were installed at the Andersen St sports fields. Battling with waterlogged courts, netball matches were played in various locations across the district, before play moved to the council owned facilities at the Tully Show Grounds Igloo that comprised of one indoor court and one outdoor court. Tully Netball Association became an incorporation body in 1995. As the association grew and evolved the delivery of netball in Tully became problematic. While senior netball competitions were strong, only intermittent netball experiences for juniors aged 5-17 were offered by the Tully Netball Association largely due to a lack of facilities. Without junior netball players rising through the ranks, association membership numbers were slowly shrinking, and the future growth and sustainability of the association was limited without junior netball programs to help attract members, build skills, and retain players, umpires and coaches. At this time girls wanting to participate in NetSetGo or play junior netball fixtures needed to travel to neighbouring associations up to 45mins away to do so. In 2014, a small group of dedicated and determined volunteers within the association developed and introduced NetSetGo and junior netball programs to deliver netball experiences for juniors aged 5-17yrs within the Tully district and Southern Cassowary Coast. The introduction of Junior Netball in 2014 reenergized the club, and the demand for netball was so strong that association membership doubled in a short time. This was a massive achievement, but at the same time compounded the long-term problem of the delivery of netball in Tully. To accommodate the rapidly increasing participation demand for netball, training and competitions were being conducted at up to 3 different venues in Tully each week on different days of the week. The association as a whole was very disjointed, and it was an enormous task to manage activities, programs and fixture competitions across these venues.

In 2017, after extensive community collaboration with the Cassowary Coast Regional Council, it was established that the council owned facilities were unable to be further developed to accommodate netball in Tully. In 2018, the Tully High School/Education QLD offered the Tully High School Multipurpose Centre as an alternative facility for the home of Tully Netball. After extensive community collaboration with the Tully High School, the Cassowary Coast Regional Council, Netball QLD and the Department of Sport and Recreation, the Tully Netball Association developed a strategic plan focussed on forming a joint partnership with the Tully High School and moving all netball activities to Tully High School Multipurpose Centre. The impact of having all levels of competition in one venue has had an incredibly positive impact on club management, growth, sustainability, and most importantly, club spirit! In 2024, the Tully Netball Association celebrated 10 years of highly successful junior netball programs. The Tully Netball Association continues to grow from strength to strength through the delivery of high-quality netball competitions and carnival experiences, and developmental pathways for players, coaches and umpires. The Tully High School Multipurpose Centre, the home of The Tully Netball Association, is a dynamic netball sporting hub in our community. 2025 marks 45 years of Netball in Tully. The future of netball in Tully looks great, as the Tully Netball Associated continues to deliver high quality netball experiences for all ages that foster and develop netball skills, fitness, fun and friendships.
